Bloomsday at the Irish Embassy Berlin

Bloomsday Photo by Photocall Date: Tuesday 16th June Time: 12:30 - 14:30 Join on Tuesday, 16 June (doors open from 12 noon onwards) for a celebration of Joyce, Yeats and Irish literature and music! Dr. Sabine Müller, University of Leipzig will draw some connections between the works of two of Ireland’s greatest writers, author John Holten will read from his work, there will be performance by Curious Fox Books and Nina Hynes and Shaun Mulrooney will provide the music. Bungalow Bliss Exhibition at Irish Embassy

Screen Shot 2015-05-27 at 15.24.45 Berlin-based Irish engineer and artist, Adrian Duncan, and  Irish Dublin-based textile designer, Olga Tiernan, have come together to produce a number of works inspired by Jack Fitzsimon’s Bungalow Bliss catalogue. This fascinating exhibition, which opens at the Irish Embassy on June 4th, focuses on the indelible mark left on rural domestic construction by the Bungalow Bliss catalogue which has gone on to sell a quarter of a million copies in Ireland since the catalogue’s first publication in 1971. Setanta Berlin Celebration

For those interested in getting out and enjoying some fresh air and good company, Setanta Berlin and Steglitzer TK Hockey E.V are organising the BERLIN-IRISH Day & Night Celebration on Saturday March 21st. The event, which will be attended by Irish Ambassador to Germany H.E. Michael Collins, will include hurling matches, workshops and BBQ from 14.00, and a ticketed evening event from 18:00 with Irish cuisine, dancers and musicians for the evening’s entertainment. Shebeen Flick Berlin 2015

Screen Shot 2015-03-04 at 17.20.48 Shebeen Flick is back in Berlin with a star-studded programme of loved and unseen Irish films as part of the St. Patrick’s celebrations between 11th- 17th March in Kino Moviemento. The screenings will showcase a selection of feature length films that have not yet been distributed in Germany alongside some favourite Irish classics. Some of the unseen films include the romantic comedy STANDBY starring Jessica Paré (Mad Men) and Irish shooting star Brian Gleeson (Snow White and the Huntsman); Niall Heery’s GOLD starring Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and  PILGRIM HILL, the debut feature from Ireland’s raising star director Gerard Barrett. The programme also includes celebratory screenings of the 18th anniversary of the Irish cult I WENT DOWN and the 25th anniversary of the German release of Jim Sheridan’s  award-winning MY LEFT FOOT starring Daniel Day-Lewis. In addition to the screenings at Moviemento, an exclusive event with the silent film COME ON OVER will take place on Friday 13th March at the ehemaliges Stummfilmkino Delphi. Previously screened in MoMA New York and Barbican London, COME ON OVER will be screened for the first time in Berlin with a live improvised score by pianist Gregor Graciano and piper Christian Tschirch. GAA 7-a-side Gaelic Football

As part of the St Patricks Festival, Berlin GAA will be running a 7-a-side gaelic football tournament on Sunday 15 March just after the parade and as the concert starts in Kreuzberg. All newcomers to the sport are more than welcome; as are oldcomers who haven't played in Berlin yet! Members from the Berlin Crocs Aussie Rules team will be giving the games an international feel and ensuring there will be some good hard shoulders being given.   Web:
